Access Codes always take priority over the base tariff plan. The code's prepaid resources are consumed first, and the plan covers anything beyond them.
Yes - on 7stamp, Access Codes always take priority over the base tariff plan. When an Access Code is active on a business, the system spends the code’s prepaid resources first. Your base plan, Free or paid, is only used after the Access Code’s monthly resources are exhausted or when you use capacity beyond what the Package covers.
Does an access code override my subscription?
An access code does not cancel or replace your subscription, but it always takes priority over it. The code sits in front of your plan in the consumption order: the platform spends the code’s resources first, and its usage is isolated from your base billing. Your subscription stays exactly as it is and simply waits behind the code.
The exact order of resource consumption
The platform always follows the same order for every billable action:
- Active Access Code Packages first. Any operation that fits inside the code’s monthly allowance is drawn from the code and tagged to it in the admin. It never reaches your base billing.
- Base tariff plan second. When the code’s monthly resources are used up, or you use more than the Package covers, the platform applies your plan’s rules:
- On a paid plan, the extra seats or operations are billed automatically through your linked card.
- On the Free plan, the system records the overage and offers you a choice: activate a new Access Code, upgrade to a paid plan, or reduce usage back within the free limits.
Side-by-side comparison
An Access Code Package and a base tariff plan can run together, but they do different jobs. The Access Code is prepaid priority capacity; the tariff plan is the account’s base billing layer.
| Aspect | Access Code Package | Base tariff plan |
|---|---|---|
| Payment method | Prepaid code, no card required | Card-linked subscription on paid plans, or the Free tier |
| Consumption order | Used first | Used after the code is exhausted |
| Billing isolation | Tracked separately, outside base billing | Standard account billing |
| Limit refresh | Monthly reset, no rollover | Monthly or per plan terms |
| Resource units | Staff Seats, Card Operations, Marketing Notifications | Same units |
| Lifespan | Lifetime or fixed-term; both reset monthly | Ongoing while subscribed |
| Who controls it | Code owner or agency can assign, pause, and revoke if unused | Business owner controls the plan |
| Can run in parallel | Yes, with Free or paid plans and with other codes | Yes |
Can I run an access code and a paid subscription at the same time?
Yes. Parallel use is fully supported with both the Free and paid plans. For example, one code can cover some of your staff while the paid plan covers extra seats, or the Free plan can run until its limits are hit and then a new code is activated. In every case, the code is consumed first and the plan covers anything beyond it.
What happens when the access code runs out?
When the code’s monthly resources are exhausted, the platform falls back to your plan. On a paid plan, additional usage is billed automatically via the linked card under your plan’s rules. On the Free plan, the system records the overage and prompts you to activate another Access Code, upgrade to paid, or reduce usage to fit the free limits.
The next month, the code’s limits refresh again. They do not carry the shortfall forward, and unused capacity does not accumulate.

Frequently asked questions
Does an access code override my subscription on 7stamp?
An access code does not cancel your subscription, but it always takes priority over the base tariff plan. The system spends the code's prepaid resources first and only falls back to your plan when the code is exhausted or exceeded.
Which resources are used first, the access code or the plan?
Access Code resources are always consumed before the base tariff plan. They are tracked separately from base billing and reset monthly.
Can I use an access code and a paid plan at the same time?
Yes. Access codes can run in parallel with the free plan, a paid plan, or other access codes. The code is consumed first; the plan covers anything beyond it.
What happens when the access code resources run out?
On a paid plan, extra usage is billed automatically through the linked card. On the free plan, the system records the overage and offers to activate a new access code, upgrade to paid, or reduce usage to fit the free limits.
Do access code limits roll over month to month?
No. Access code package limits refresh every month and do not accumulate, regardless of whether the package is lifetime or fixed-term.
